Though Corey was not a kingpin, he received an essential death sentence largely because three of his co-conspirators testified against him in exchange for reduced sentences. Due to federal laws, Corey was held accountable for all "reasonably foreseeable" quantities of drugs attributed to the five other people involved in the conspiracy. Absolutely no dimension of his conduct was violent. Despite facing the grim reality of dying in prison, Corey has worked diligently to prove that he is deserving of a second chance. He has devoted himself to extensive rehabilitative programming, completed three self-improvement residential programs and received over 100 learning certificates that have enhanced his education and personal development. Corey is the only defendant on his case still behind bars after a co-defendant, who was also serving life without parole, received an unquestionably deserving grant of clemency from President Barack Obama in May of this year. The United States locks up too many people for far too long. This crucial bill would pull back mass incarceration and save taxpayers billions of dollars by reducing mandatory minimums and making the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 retroactive. And yet despite unprecedented bipartisan support, it still has not come to the Senate floor for a vote. We must urge Congress to pass this overdue, life-changing legislation. But Congress is not the only branch of government beginning to address this injustice. Obama has shown he is committed to reinvigorating the clemency process through his administration's groundbreaking initiative to prioritize clemency applications for individuals like Corey. On Tuesday, Obama granted clemency to 111 people. The White House reports that this act of mercy brings the President's clemency total to more than the last 10 presidents combined. I am hopeful Obama will continue to show dedication to this critical initiative so no one who meets the clemency criteria he set forth is left behind bars when he leaves office. Our criminal justice system is tangled in overcrowded prison cells, draconian sentences, shameful sentencing disparities, burdensome incarceration costs and heartbroken children and families. Reform is desperately needed. The time is now for the people who hold the levers of power to believe in humanity and to simply do the right thing. When an application for any form of clemency is received in the Office of Executive Clemency, it is screened for eligibility regarding the required time frames for the various offenses and the accompanying required certified court documents are reviewed. NO ES AMOR:

Si necesitas alguien para ser feliz, eso no es amor.
Es carencia.

Si tienes celos, inseguridad y haces cualquier cosa para mantener a alguien a tu lado, aún sabiendo que no eres amado, y dices que crees en esa persona, pero no en los otros, que te parecen rivales, eso no es amor.
Es falta de amor propio.

Si crees que tu vida queda vacía sin esa persona; no consigues imaginarte solo y mantienes una relación que se acabó sólo porque no tienes vida propia, eso no es amor.
Es dependencia.

Si piensas que el ser amado te pertenece; te sientes dueño y señor de su vida y de su cuerpo; no le das la oportunidad de expresarse, de decidirse, sólo para afirmar tu dominio, eso no es amor.
Es egoísmo.

Si no lo deseas; no te realizas como hombre o mujer con esta persona; prefieres no tener relaciones íntimas con esa persona, sin embargo sientes algún placer en estar a su lado, eso no es amor.

Un fenómeno cultural que llama poderosamente la atención al que examina tradiciones y costumbres de los pueblos, es que éstas se mueven y se funden y precipitan igual que las nubes. Los vientos culturales las mueven a gran altura, por lo que se desplazan con absoluta libertad, más allá de toda clase de fronteras, incluso las religiosas, allí donde la sincera convivencia y fraternidad de religiones es un alto valor cultural, mucho más allá de la aséptica tolerancia.

No existen Navidades netamente españolas, inglesas, francesas, italianas, americanas del norte o del sur... En cualquier lugar del mundo la Navidad es una aglomeración o una síntesis de costumbres y tradiciones de muy diversos orígenes: lo más frecuente es que los grandes símbolos (el Belén, el Árbol, el Niño Jesús o el Viejo bonachón que reparte regalos, o los Reyes Magos) se impongan por su propia bondad y convivan en armonía ocupando todo el espacio geográfico de tradición cristiana, junto a tradiciones locales que se guardan y se fomentan como un patrimonio cultural de gran valor.

Ciertamente el gran invento de san Francisco de Asís, el Belén, se ha difundido por todo el mundo en diversos formatos: desde los vistosos y artísticos Belenes en los que no falta de nada: paisajes espectaculares, ciudades, campos y poblados llenos de vida, escenas diversas en torno al Nacimiento de Jesús, aplicaciones tecnológicas en el movimiento del agua del río, de molinos, de norias, de aserraderos, de figuras y en la iluminación; desde ahí, hasta la realización más sencilla, que se reduce al "Nacimiento": una construcción de madera o corcho en forma de portal o de cueva, en la que figuran tan sólo la Virgen, san José, el Niño, la mula y el buey, y que a menudo forma parte de la ambientación del Árbol.

Precisamente el Árbol, que se ha convertido en el símbolo más universal de la Navidad: en su forma más esquemática, un triángulo adornado con luces y regalos. Es que se trata de un símbolo sagrado y majestuoso venido de los pueblos del norte de Europa. En España el árbol se consideró durante muchos años como una abdicación de los valores autóctonos, de signo inequívocamente cristiano: por eso fue combatido desde todas las instancias.

Pero es que se trata más que de un símbolo, de un auténtico objeto sagrado, tan antiguo como la propia humanidad. En el Árbol de Navidad veneramos a nuestro gran tótem del reino vegetal; y le rendimos culto. Y como ocurre con todos los animales totémicos, al tiempo que le rendimos el culto más sagrado, le damos muerte: porque de la muerte de nuestros tótems vivimos. Para eso inventó la humanidad el culto al árbol y a los animales de los que vive: para que su muerte fuese siempre sagrada, sometida por tanto a las reglas del culto. Y el culto al Árbol exige hoy que sólo se talen como Árboles de Navidad aquellos que debían serlo inexorablemente, y que el resto nunca sean arrancados, sino cultivados en viveros. Aunque suene paradójico, el Árbol de Navidad tiene su buena parte en la cultura de amor a los árboles, a los bosques, a la naturaleza. Es el fruto de los millones de árboles que cada año sacrificamos en honor del Árbol.

En cuanto a la extensión geográfica, es ocioso nombrar países concretos, porque es el único símbolo totalmente universal de la Navidad: está presente en los cinco continentes, en todos los hogares, aunque sea en sus formas más humildes. Y en cuanto a las empresas e instituciones, compiten calladamente entre sí, por ver quién consigue cada año plantar el árbol de Navidad más grande y más hermoso del mundo.
